ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accurately and thoroughly document ophthalmic exams and procedures as they are being performed by the physician.
- List all appropriate diagnoses and symptoms as well as follow-up instructions and prescriptions as directed by the physician.
- Provide patients and/or family members with instructions for self-care and follow-up as directed by the physician.
- Coordinate patient scheduling and monitor patient flow throughout the office, properly communicating delays
- Perform other duties and assume various responsibilities as determined by the office manager, team lead and doctor(s).
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High school graduate, or equivalent
- Previous experience as an ophthalmic scribe or technician is preferred
- Previous experience with electronic medical records preferred.
COMPETENCIES:

- Proficient in EHR, including proven competency in accuracy of data entry.
- Proficient with ophthalmic medical terminology.
- Recognition of the ophthalmic exam process and the ability to record exam details.
- Ability to effectively communicate in person, by phone, and in writing, including grammar, spelling and punctuation.
- Superior organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Dependable and self-motivated.
- Proactive, adaptable, with the ability to work under pressure to accomplish projects and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT (per ADA guidelines):
- Physical Activity: Standing for sustained periods of time, Talking, Hearing.
- Physical requirements: Sedentary work. Involves sitting most of the time.
- The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform each activity.
