Description Worker's Compensation Claims (Mailroom) Clerk
Location: San Francisco

Position Summary:

Performs various support functions for the claims department that include, but are not limited to, those listed in the essential job functions section below.

Essential Job Functions

• Provide telephone support for incoming calls, including taking loss notices that are called in.
• Open, sort, scan and complete initial indexing information on incoming mail.
• Complete the initial entry of loss notices in the claims system and distribute the claim to the appropriate supervisor.
• Perform research on losses that have entry-level coverage issues.
• Provide claim file storage services – boxing, shipping and maintaining records.
• Operate a variety of office equipment, including computers, printers, copy machines, facsimile receiver/transmitter and mailing equipment.
• Other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Position Requirements Skills Required
1-3 years related experience; some college coursework completed.
o Ability to take direction and make decisions.
o Self organized and detail oriented.
o Professional telephone demeanor and good oral communication skills.
o Ability to work well under pressure and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
o Basic understanding of business technology.

• Education/Experience

o High school diploma.
o Six months experience in an insurance claims department or related experience.

Degree of Supervision Required

• Some degree of supervision will be needed during the initial stages of employment and with the introduction of any new job tasks or responsibilities, as well as some resource support to handle questions/issues that arise during the normal course of business.

Working Conditions
• Normal office conditions.
• May require occasional evening and/or weekend work.
