Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory (SHC) is a Lasallian Vincentian Catholic, co-educational college preparatory secondary school located in the heart of San Francisco, California. We provide academically rigorous, vibrant learning grounded in social justice and student centered pedagogy. Our entire community is committed to cultivating each student's unique talents and passions, providing myriad opportunities for students to discern and realize their individual intellectual, artistic, athletic, social, and spiritual potential. SHC is a San Francisco Archdiocesan High School that is cosponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, District of San Francisco New Orleans and the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, Province of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.

POSITION TITLE: Associate Director of Alumni & Parent Engagement
SUPERVISED BY: Director of Advancement
FLSA STATUS: Exempt, Full-Time Regular
EFFECTIVE DATE: November 2023
COMPENSATION: $80,000-90,000 per year

Position Summary:

The Associate Director of Alumni & Parent Engagement plays a crucial role in fostering and cultivating strong relationships between SHC and its communities, including alumni and parents. This position is responsible for working in partnership with the Director of Advancement to develop and implement strategies to engage and involve alumni and parents in school activities, programs, and fundraising efforts. The Associate Director of Alumni & Parent Engagement serves as a key liaison between SHC and its community, promoting a sense of belonging, pride, and support among stakeholders and is responsible for the following:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Invest in the mission of SHC and the charisms of the Daughters of Charity and De La Salle Christian Brothers and Department of Catholic Schools formational programs.

  • Provide exemplary personal and professional presence throughout the San Francisco and greater Bay Area community.

  • Promote SHC’s mission, philosophy, and brand among all current and future stakeholders.

  • Demonstrates integrity, spiritual focus, ethical behavior, fiscal responsibility and managerial excellence in support of the mission of SHC.

  • Integrate meaningful diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging practices into alumni and parent engagement programming.

Alumni Engagement:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive alumni engagement strategy to connect with and involve former students.

  • Plan and organize alumni events, reunions, networking opportunities, and mentoring programs.

  • Lead the development of alumni newsletters, social media campaigns, and other communication channels to keep alumni informed and engaged.

  • Coordinate with other school departments to involve alumni in various school initiatives, such as athletic events, visual and performing arts events, guest speaking or volunteer opportunities.

  • Cultivate relationships with alumni to encourage their philanthropic support.

Parent Engagement:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive parent engagement strategy to involve parents in Advancement and activities, events, and initiatives.

  • Work in partnership with the Parents Association to foster a sense of community and encourage active participation.

  • Work in partnership with the Director of Advancement to support the development and management of the Crab Dinner Parent Committee for SHC’s annual Crab Dinner.

Fundraising and Development:

  • Work closely with the SHC administration and Director of Advancement to support current fundraising initiatives and create strategies targeting alumni and parents.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Advancement to identify potential investors among alumni and parents and develop cultivation and stewardship plans. Express gratitude and recognition to alumni and parents for their contributions, both financial and non-financial.

  • Work in partnership with the Office of Advancement for all SHC fundraising campaigns and events targeting alumni and parents.

  • Work in partnership with Director of Advancement to prospect research current and prospective investors

Relationship Building:

  • Establish and nurture strong relationships with alumni, parents, and other key stakeholders.

  • Serve as a resource and point of contact for alumni and parents, addressing inquiries, concerns, or requests promptly and professionally.

  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to leverage their relationships with alumni and parents for engagement opportunities.

  • Represent the school at community events, alumni gatherings, and other external functions.

Position Requirements

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Prior experience in alumni relations, parent engagement, fundraising, or related roles.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport and engage diverse audiences.

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.

  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and strategies, including experience in donor cultivation and stewardship.

  • Familiarity with database management systems and proficiency in using technology for communication and engagement purposes.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, staff, volunteers, alumni, and parents.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and solve problems creatively.

  • Passion for education, community building, and cultivating lifelong relationships.

  • Must be highly organized, motivated, high-energy, detail-oriented self-starter, and work well within a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a diverse, inclusive work environment.

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Google Applications.

  • Experience with Salesforce a plus.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary.

Certifications and/or Licensure
None

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • At least three years of experience in managing a comprehensive alumni relations program
  • An alumnus or alumna of a Catholic secondary school preferred

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft software applications, Google/Gmail and internet usage, and; database management preferred
