Medicaid Benefits Specialist

Wyandot Behavioral Health Network is seeking a Medicaid Benefits Specialist will ensure that client benefits and eligibility for benefits is maintained and up-to-date and to inform providers of clients’ current benefit status in order to provide medically necessary and appropriate services. This position reports to the Supervisor of the Vocational / SOAR team.

Essential Job Functions and responsibilities:

  • Maintain extensive knowledge of the Medicaid application process, eligibility requirements, and documentation required for complete applications.
  • Works collaboratively with billing department to obtain information about changes to client benefits.
  • Communicate with treatment providers of client benefit status and/or change in benefit status.
  • Establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with outside stakeholders in order to successfully submit and follow-up on Medicaid applications.
  • Educate case managers and clients on Medicaid eligibility requirements and documentation necessary to complete Medicaid application.
  • Communication and coordination with primary case manager regarding Medicaid application status.
  • Assist clients and case managers initial applications for Medicaid benefits.
  • Assist clients and case managers with recertification or re-applying for Medicaid benefits.
  • Data collection for submitted applications, denials, and approvals.
  • Complete SOAR certification, if not already certified

 

Other Job Functions:

  • Complies with all relevant Wyandot Center policies and procedures.
  • Protects client confidentiality in all aspect of the job.
  • Promotes a positive organizational culture by being trauma informed and working with stakeholders in a solution focused manner.
  • Performs other duties as deemed appropriate by supervisor.
  • Able to relate and communicate positively with colleagues and representatives of other agencies.
 
Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree or professional relevant experience.
  • Ability to recognize and be sensitive to cultural and ethnic differences.
  • Must understand the impacts of insufficient health care and poverty on symptoms of mental illness.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with both Center
  • Must be able to safely perform essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and dependable transportation that is properly registered and insured.
  • Clearance through the Kansas Child Abuse/Neglect Register, criminal background check, reference verification, and all other screening and employment processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with the highest level of confidentiality and business ethics in relation to Center and consumer information and access.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment. Ability to work as a business partner with all departments/ functions and use Center goals, philosophy, mission and values as operating drivers in all recommendations and decisions.
