Parent Educator 

Description

Wyandot BHN is seeking a dedicated Parent Community Educator to join our team. The Parent Community Educator will collaborate with community partners and internally to provide parent education and support. The Parent Educator will assess needs and coordinate referrals to ensure that families in need have access to parenting education and support. The Parent Community Educator will work with community partners to provide training and support on mental health and diagnosis, suicide risk and response, and trauma informed care.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with community partners to process and manage referrals to parent education curriculum and parent resources.
  • Collaborate with community partners to provide training on mental health and diagnosis, suicide risk and response, and trauma informed care.
  • Help to coordinate referrals to mental health services as needed from parenting classes and community education and training.
  • Track referrals and outreach for parenting education and support, as well as, community education and training request.
  • Work to identify youth and families that could qualify PACES services.
  • Acts as the lead liaison between community partners and PACES regarding parenting education and support, as well as, community education and training.
  • Track data outcomes: referrals, referrals to PACES, number and type of trainings being accessed whether community or parenting need.
  • Implementation of EBP's Nurturing Families and the Family Acceptance Project.
  • Implementation on Trauma Informed Care training and other training on suicide risk and response, mental health and diagnosis.
  • Documentation of all community outreach and referral outreach in accordance with PACES procedures.
  • Attend community partner meetings, school resource fairs, and other community collaborations meetings as identified.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Position Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of specific medical/psychiatric illnesses, procedures and treatments
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including negotiation skills necessary to work within a team
  • Excellent engagement skills necessary for providing effective training to all types of learners
  • Cultural responsivity and demonstrated competency in all relevant areas, including effective communication with a diverse population.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize decisions using multiple criteria and identifiable standards of policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of community agencies/resources. Ability to advocate/negotiate systems for/with youth and families.
  • Ability to be a team player and assume other appropriate duties as assigned by management.
  • Ability to work within a Windows operating system and related programs.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field is required. Experience in the mental health field preferred.
  • One to two years of experience working in the mental health field; or combination of training, education, or experience, that is equivalent and provides the required knowledge and abilities.
